Take a tour of our nations capital by visiting some of Americas favorite landmarks.  Look for the clues and see how well youll do at matching them with a famous landmark.
Fords Theatre While President Abraham Lincoln and his wife were watching the play  Our American Cousin,  a hot rang out in the room.  Lincoln had been shot!  John Wilkes Booth, a young actor, jumped from the Presidents box to the stage and escaped.  The date was April 14, 1865, and President Lincoln died the next day.  Can you name this place where Lincoln was shot?
Lincoln Memorial Theres a secret cave under me.  Im 19 feet  (6 m) high and weigh 150 tons (136 t).  I am  all solid.  Around me there are 36 columns.  Each column represents a state in the United States.  When I was built there was only 36 states.  The Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., gave his I Have a Dream speech on my steps in 1963.  What am I?
The Reflecting Pool I am 2, 000 feet long.  At one end I can see the  Lincoln Memorial and at the other end, I can see the Washington Monument.  Can you discover what I am?
Washington Monument I have 897 steps leading up to the top of me, but everyone has to ride up on an elevator.  The ride only takes 70 seconds.  When the wind blows at 35 miles per hour I sway 1/8 th  of an inch. Im 555 feet and 5 inches tall.  I am the tallest monument in the city.  What am I?
The White House There are the Blue Room, the Red Room, and the Green Room.  In fact, there are 132 rooms.  The famous address is 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.  Find this famous residence.
The Supreme Court Building In front, there are 16 columns made of Vermont marble, each 3 stories high.  The bronze doors weigh 26 tons.  Inside there are 9 judges called Justices.  They make important decisions about the laws of our country.  Find this building.
The Library of Congress You can see the smallest book in the world here.  Its just the size of an ant.  You can also find a copy of the Gutenberg Bible.  Its the first book ever printed in movable type.  This building is filled with 83 million items.  Can you identify this building?
John F. Kennedy Center  for the Performing Arts If you love flags, youll love to visit the Hall of Nations and the Hall of States.  They have all of their flags on display.  Six theaters in this complex are part of this living memorial in memory of one of our presidents.  Can you locate it?
Thomas Jefferson Memorial near the Tidal Basin A home away from home.  This memorial is designed after the style of this Presidents own home.  His home is named Monticello.  This president founded the University of Virginia which looks similar to the memorial.  This building has an enormous bronze statue of this President.  Identify the location of the memorial.
Federal Bureau of  Investigation Building Youll see handwriting being analyzed to detect forgery, shredded documents being pieced back together, tire tracks, and even shoe prints being examined and analyzed.  Youll even get a sharp shooting demonstration.  Where is this?
Vietnam Veterans Memorial Shiny, black granite walls in the shape of a V make this memorial unique.  There are 58,132 names of the dead or missing soldiers from one of our countrys longest wars, and people leave flowers, notes, war medals, and pictures beneath these names?  What does this memorial honor?
National Archives Americas most precious documents, The Declaration of Independence, The Constitution, and The Bill of Rights, are located here in a bombproof and fireproof vault 20 feet (6 m) below the floor.  They are sealed in glass and bronze cases filled with protective helium.  Find this building.
The Capitol This building is the second oldest in Washington, D.C.  It houses the two chambers of Congressthe House of Representatives and the Senate.  You can sit in the visitors gallery and watch Congress in action.  Where is all of this happening?
Museum of Natural History;  The Smithsonian Institution Here youll find a dinosaur egg thats about 70 million years old and a jaw of a great white shark that lived millions of years ago.  Where are these (and many other) creatures?
The Museum of American History; Smithsonian Institution How would you like to see Dorothys red slippers from the Wizard of Oz or the leather jacket worn by Fonzie in  Happy Days , or the boxing gloves of Muhammad Ali and Joe Louis, or the flag that flew over Ft. McHenry that inspired Francis Scott Key to write out national anthem?  These things and much more are found in this fascinating building on The Mall.
National Air and Space Museum Smithsonian Institution You can see  Kitty Hawk  (Wright Brothers plane), a replica of the space shuttle  Columbia,  and the  Spirit of St. Louis.   Most everyone loves this place.  Find it.
The Mall One of our most important rights can be exercised here every day of the year.  In fact, there are over 6,500 demonstrations held here each year.  Sometimes it is just one person walking quietly with a sign, but other times, there are tens of thousands of people who gather to protest something or encourage our government to take action.  Where does this happen?
